Hi everyone,

I'm doing a lingerie box with a black lace bra and thong. I made the undies with black fondant, but I'm not happy with just leaving them dry. I want to add something to make them look a little more satiny. I was thinking super pearl, but I don't want to take away from the black color.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

I just had the same issue. I made a tiara and it was pink to match a bow, but I wanted shimmer. So I put on pearl dust and it added shine and only lightened the color slightly, not enough to really notice. But I cannot tell you for sure for black.

Pearl over black with look smudged and cover up the black. I would use a black luster or disco dust. You will get a very sparkly dark black look.

i agree with shirley, it wouldnt stay black. if you use a disco dust, go with a dark color too, if you use something light like rainbow (white) sparkle dust, it will sparkle, but have the same light-ening effect as super pearl would. you really need to go with black or at least brown/ purple/ navy, or the light colored glitters will really take away from the black.

Thanks everyone! Not sure I have time to order the luster dust so I may have to go with pearl and take my chances. Live and learn, they say.

Thanks again!

I did a bowtie, and what I did was to brush a little water on it, but with a brush that I had used for painting with black food coloring, so it had black color mixed with the water. It made it nice & shiny, but not sticky. I don't know if it would work for a whole pair of undies. You might want to try a small bit to get the amounts right.

kbochick had the right idea with the black color, it does add a glossy shine. BUT, i would recommend using extract or alcohol (lemon, orange, mint are high around 90ish percent) rather than water so that the liquid evaporates faster rather than hanging around to make the fondant gooey.
