I seem to a problem when covering real cake with fondant, I can see the filling lines after it is covered, am I not putting enough buttercream on the cake before applying the fondant or am I rolling the fondant out to thin? If I start with 4 inch high cake it ends up being 2 1/2 after I apply the fondant, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong? Please help!

I am a little confused how a 4" cake turns into a 2 1/2" cake....maybe you could clarify.

As for the bumps. I would use a bit more BC and you have to make sure it is super smooth. I also roll my Fondant a little thinker to ensure less ripping and a little more playroom for dimples and dents.

maybe my cake isn't dense enough it just seems to smoosh down, I know my fondant isn't to thick cause I can see the filling lines thru it. I have a hard time getting it to keep it's shape?

I agree. Use a bit more BC and roll your fondant to about 3/8 in.
