I see a lot of people have made block cakes, and there are a lot of comments about how difficult it was... can anyone give me any pointers, suggestions, tips to make my endeavor easier? I would love to hear anything that you have to say.

I can give you advice on what not to do icon_biggrin.gif I made a stacked block cake...(one of my first cakes)...it was two blocks on bottom with one stacked on top ...I didn't dowel it and it kind of sunk in, fell & took some of the bottom block with it...total disaster!!

So I guess my advice is to use a sturdy recipe and using dowels if you are stacking them thumbs_up.gif

hi i made a few. mine were baby shower cakes but i did not stack them atop each other. i put two on each board on one and on another i put each one on separate boards. that way they could move them around the party. they had alot of food for that one. i have pics of them both in my photos. hth icon_smile.gif

You need to put each block on it's own board, and you can stack them, just be sure to dowel each corner. They're not hard, but takes a little time to do each one. I have some in my pics.

I have made blocks I think 3 times now. I make a 9x13, split down the middle the long way, and then cut in thirds the short way. I frost middle with buttercream, stack, then freeze. If you are cutting your blocks, you definately have to freeze so you can frost the blocks. Also, I have stacked them without a problem. I just put straws underneath the stacked one. ( I used the straws as dowels.)I have not stacked more than one. I have made 3 blocks at a time, and I thought it was kinda fun, but if you look in my pictures, you'll see I made 6 of them for a baby shower, and I was so tired of them by the time I finished those!! Good luck, they're fun in moderation! icon_wink.gif
