As some of you know I spoke with our local health inspector about being able to do my cakes at home as a business. Well to make a long story short all I need is a 3 bowl sink and a few other things. Well this was very exciting knowing I didn't need a whole other kitchen. So know here comes the part where my (supposedly supportive hubby) crushes my dreams. Last night we have the discussion of putting in a third sink. I have a new house already with a very expensive sink already. So he's like I am not taking out that sink to put in a three bowl sink. I told him you don't all you do is put me in a third sink. Well he starts by saying that he can't imagine that I can make any money let alone enough to run a business selling my cakes. Remind you I am just starting so I am not going to sell a pinto cake for a cadillac price. Then he says if this is what you want to do go work for the local grocery store or the new super walmart they are building in our town. Why the hell would I give up my cushy job of being a stay at home wife and mommy and doing his business books for his business to go work for someplace like that. No offense to anyone that works in a grocery bakery. So I am going to call the health inspector back and see if there is someway I can get away with not putting in a third sink. All then he says I don't want to make you mad or upset, WELL THEN WHY DID YOU OPEN YOU MOUTH!!! What did you think it was going to do. Run and reward you for your helpful insight. COME ON!!!

Sorry so long, but I had to tell someone and I knew you all would understand.

I asked my DH about doing my real job (home health physical therapy) 3 days a week and cakes 2 days a week. He strongly tells me "You are not quitting therapy JUST to do cakes!"

Mind you, I could do fine with 3 days week with therapy. I've worked it out in my head and paper about what I needed to keep bills paid but he's not listening...YET!!!

BTW--your cakes are great. Don't let him discourage you. Just smile and say "whatever". Because us women know that means "I'm going to do it anyway. You just may not realize it...YET!!!"

I would treat his suggestion as a business problem. make up a balance sheet. if you went to work at one of these places you would be making XXXXdollars (probably part time at min wage) that would be on the plus coloum. then on the minus coloum put the amount you would have to pay for baby sitting, you probably will have to give up doing his books so you need a book keeper, your travel time/ cost, either need to have him help out with house work or get a house keeper, ect, Make him see how much of a benifit it will be to have a 3rd sink and you working from home.
Most of the time guys (no offence to any of you) need to be able to see the bottom line.
hope this helps
