Heres the cake I promised I would post. It is not finished because I have to put the finishing touches at the final destination. I have a Ortiz batting figure, red sox banners, logo and more stars and baseballs to be added. I will post the actual final cake tommorrow when I get home ( about 6:00)
THank you for your support!
so, let's see that's about another 7 1/2 hours of nailbiting, killing the legs sitting on the edge of seat...baiting the breath....
ooooo...that clock just isn't moving FAST enough!!!
where's a live web-feed when you need it!!!?!?????
Ok so heres the finished cake with Big Papi, He did say thank you for the cake and even ate a peice. Some kids had a peice but not all I didnt even cut into the square layer. They are having the same camp tomorrow so I told them to save it for tomorrow. I had a few minor problems when setting it up but hey I fixed what I could. I am glad its over now all I need to do is clean the mess!
Thank you everyone for your support!
Well, I'm from Massachusetts. I just watched the 6:00 news on two different channels where they were covering the Ortiz visit to West Bridgewater. I scanned every inch of the screen and no cake was in sight! Everything they showed of the event took place in the batting cages. I was so excited to see if I could see your cake, psurrette. I was really hoping they would show it; but the main focus was on the children. (Which I'm sure made the parents happier to see their kids on TV.)
I can't wait to see the picture of the finished cake. Did you get to meet him?
OK for the stand this is what I did.....
I bought the Wilton 6 tier stand with the center construction
I took the base foot and glued the heck out of it to a Wilton round cake separator plate that was turned upside down. (this made the cake board sit on the feet of the plate) I then cut a whole off center of Masonite board big enough for the center construction pole to fit thru this made the cake board sit on the feet of the plate. So hole in square pillar thru hole,
I then used a whiffle ball bat cut in 3 pieces and slid them over the pillars to make it look like it was a bat screwed the top in and Presto all done.
I hope this makes sense if not when I get the things cleaned I can post pictures but not today I am beat!
I LOVE the little pennants hanging off one tier! Adorable! Can you put that picture WITH David Ortiz on some kind of other site that we can take a peek at?
PSurrette: I think you should promote yourself. Send your picture to your local newspaper. It's hometown news worthy to be proud of.
