AWWWWW! icon_eek.gif It's 2:50 am here...and despite my screen name I am a novice and I have a wedding shower cake to finish for tommorrow. It needs to be perfect and I think I ruined it. I rolled out my fondant and it stuck to the mat a bit but it was more in the middle than the sides and I had it laid out one the cake by the time I noticed and now has all these marks on it. icon_cry.gif Is there any way I can get them out or cover them up or something. Other than decorating over top of them, I'm just doing a bit of scroll work on it and some of the spots are an odd enough shape that it wouldn't cover it all up.

Also, they don't want a cake topper and I'm not sure what I should use to cover the hole on top from my stablizing dowel to make it look like there isn't a hole. Any advice? icon_eek.gif

If you have covered the cake in white fondant, then you can use a dab of royal icing over the hole to cover it up. Do you have a photo of the other problems, I can't quite picture in my mind what you mean.

Oh honey I wish I was closer, but I am half a world away in New Zealand. Can you give us a pic of the problem areas? Is there any way you can make the scrollwork quite free form to cover up the areas, or do you have a specific design? Would a good covering of lustre dus help disguise it? As for the hole in the top, can you patch it with a bit of royal or bc in the same colour as your fondant? Or a bit of fondant well smoothed over?

Like amberhoney said, you could patch it with another piece of fondant - if it's still soft,it's easy enough to smooth over the joins with your fingers until the marks/joins disappear . icon_biggrin.gif
