i'm baking a large cake and what i've gathered from this site you can put a flower nail in the middle of the cake pan to ensure the cake has evenly baked in the middle. the thing is i don't have metal flower nail i've got plastic, so what else can i use to put in the middle? anyone out there have tried anything different?

cleaned out tomato paste or similar can (very clean) w/ both ends removed.

grease it up inside and out.

put batter inside to same depth as rest of pan

bake.

remove can w/ the small "plug" of cake.

take out plug and using icing put it in hole in cake.
