I have searched the galleries but all the train cakes there are for children. I need an idea for a train cake for a guy that is soon to be 20 years old. Nothing too elaborate because he is my daughters boyfriend and they have only been dating about 2 months. Thanks in advance!!

maybe make a train scape. You know those adult versions with the towns they go through and such. But since you don't want to make it elaborate, maybe just have it go through landscape. Have it go around in a circle on the cake with trees, bushes, those candy rocks and such around it. buy a little toy train, pipe the train tracks on the cake, and plop the toy ontop. maybe do a little graham cracker bridge going over a shallow "river" that you carve into the cake and ice blue.

Here's a train scape I did with a sheet and a Wonder Mold. The birthday boy wanted Thomas on his way to play golf. Go figure!

Train tracks are pretzel sticks, sand trap is brown sugar, golf ball on top of the mountain is a gumball and, my favorite part, the lake is a bowl of blue Jello. I cut a hole out of the cake and dropped the bowl inside.

Hope this helps.

William Sonoma had the cutest train cake mold at Christmas time. Im not sure if they still have it but they had it filled with candy. Maybe you could do the train and make it look like the old steam engines or something from the Lionel train sets they have? I would try to make it look like a model train set with the scape also. That would look really neat!
