I made a bassinet cake for a shower recently and I made 2 oval cakes and iced them with basket weave. For the hood of the bassinet I rolled out gum paste and cut it the length I needed and draped it over the sided of a metal bowl covered in plastic wrap to let it dry. I also folded the top corners back into a square corner to add another element of detail to it so it had another angle instead of just a straight line all through. After it was dry I brushed it with luster dust and piped blue bows with blue royal icing and wrote his name across the back and then just pipes tiny stars around the front edge and the edge of the part I had folded back. I also brushed saphire blue dust on the edges of the hood as I had made it gathered so it too would not just lay flat. I hope this has helped you. I have not even taken it off my camera yet but if you would like a photo you can email me at [email protected] and put baby bassinet in the subject line then I can send you a couple if you like that is.

There are many in the gallery here. Search for bassinett or cradle.

I, too, did a cradle adorned cake.... made the cradle topper out of color flow/royal icing.... it's in my photos.
