I know there are previous posts about making cakes for males, but it seems they all ended in some type of theme. I got a call today from someone I work with and she wants a cake for her husbands birthday. 1/4 sheet cake that says happy birthday. I asked if she wanted anything special on it, and she said no, just a cake. WELL, most of my cakes have had some type of theme. So, I'm at a loss. Even at a loss on colors. Any ideas? TIA

How old is the guy? Is it a milestone such as 40? Is he into anything?
My husband said an outdoor cake would probably be safe. Like a stream set up like he's camping. Just an idea. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the idea. It is not a milestone birthday I think maybe 36 or 37. I also want to keep it fairly simple because she just wanted a "cake", so I don't want to go overboard and then not charge her accordingly. I mean I don't want to put tons of time and effort in, charge her more, when she just wanted a simple cake. Does that make sense?

dl5crew: I know a lot of people with the same birthday! Must be a great day to be born!! thumbs_up.gif

If she said "Just a cake", I would probably stick with just a plain 1/4 sheet with a border and a few flowers and write Happy Birthday Bob or Fred or Henry or whatever!!! Sounds like she isn't really looking for anything unique or special.

I like Doug's idea about the "six" pack or the single rose.

I had the same request a couple months ago...did a sheet cake with "Happy Birthday Jonathan!" and a little "Almost 40!" up in the corner hi-lighted with decorating spray. Had fetties and multi-colored icing strings all over the edges...hmmm...I better add it to my pics for ya to see. Not real exciting, but classic! (Plus easy and no need to charge extra!)

Thank you all for the ideas! Ladybug, I looked at your picture, I really like the sides, I may have to try that. I think I'm going to take a combo of the ideas given to me, and see what I come up with. Thank you all very much!
