Hi I am new - just found you guys about 5 mins ago
and I am already in up to my ears it's great! Intro time *clears throat* Hi I am Kate, 27 yrs old, just quit my job to be a SAHM and cook and bake
. We will be moving in about 2 weeks. I have 1 DS who is 13 months old and totally rocks ! I am completely self taught at all of this stuff but have been learning and doing since I could pull a chair up to the table and watch and help my Mom who is also self taught and soooo amazing, she is and always has been so completely ahead of her time it amazes me.My favs are 3-D cakes but my true love is fruit and veggie carving (more creativity allowed and less stressful to me) buthere comes the question part......I need an airbrusher to do my 3-D cakes. I had an accident and fractured my spine and it kills me to try to kneed out fondant and color it the old fashioned way and I think with the airbrusher I could so expand what I can do and it would save my back with the hours of kneeding food coloring into fondant. *funny quip* - right after my accident I had to do a cake and a friend came over to help and her DH and he was trying to help kneed in the food color and said he promised to never get in a fight with me cuz I must be a brick house to be able to kneed that stuff, he could not believe how hard it could be to color fondant! (go us!) So where can I find an airbrusher (for the best price) and tips on how to use it? Thanks ladies and gents? I cant wait to meet you all and learn from all of you!
I recommend the Airmaster from Kopykake:

Here's a recent topic on how other members are using their airbrushes:

First welcome to the board and sorry to hear about your accident.
The airmaster is awesome. Does cost a little but is well worth it. I love mine. if you look at my photos the orange/yellow fish is airbrushed. The baby shower cake was airbrushed with luster dust mixed with alcohol. Just love it.
One suggestion given to me from Bronwen Weber is to practice on coloring books so learn how to get fine lines and how far to hold away from your cake.
Good luck and welcome again.
My comment is on kneading fondant, I put mine in the KitchenAid mixer bowl with the dough hook, turn on low speed and let it do the kneading for me.
You can also warm in the microwave to soften it up a bit before kneading by hand. Just zap it for 10 seconds at a time on low power or even defrost. Watch it carefully and be careful when you knead it, some microwaves don't heat evenly and you can have hot spots in places in the fondant that can cause burns to your hands.
Wanted to say welcome to CC!
Can't help with the airbrush question since I don't have one yet. It's on my list of toys to get though! ![]()
