I want to make some cakes, but not real ones. Then I'd have to eat them all icon_lol.gif How do you make the cakes like they have on display in cake shops? Is it fondant on cake dummies? I know some of the cakes on display in a shop I go to have been on display for over a year. I think this would be a great way to practice. Thanks!

You can use styrofoam dummies or even make rice crispy treat displays (just don't eat it later icon_lol.gif ). People cover them in fondant, royal icing, wall spackle or perma-ice. I have done dummies with fondant, royal and spackle and each have their pros and cons. Though I don't see many cons with fondant unless you use store bought which could get expesive over awhile. Make royal icing or fondant decorations to put on the cake displays and you are good to go.
