Hi All,
I got the chance to stop by Freed's in Las Vegas last weekend. Some of you may have seen their website with awesome cakes they've done. Anyway, the store itself wasn't that big and they didn't have much on display. Although I did see a pg belly cake like so many have made here at CC. I got to talking to the girl behind the counter and she told me they already have at least ONE HUNDRED wedding cakes booked for 7/7/07! I know that date is suppose to be good luck so lots of weddings to be held that day. Holy cow! She said they have 5 or 6 full time decorators but bring in other local decorators to help. I can't imagine that work load or how far in advance they have to start to make that many cakes all for the same day. Phew!

I was hoping to be able to go behind the scenes but I was too chicken to ask to look.

Hi Kim, I've seen their website - and I think a blurb on the Food Network as part of a wedding cake special of some kind....

Did you buy a slice of wedding cake? And if you did, how was it?

100 wedding cakes for the same day - that's just incredible!!!

I've also visited their website and saw a short segment on the Food Network.

Hi Jan,
No , I didn't buy a slice. ( I'm so cheap!) They looked good though and started at $4.50 per slice on what they had displayed in their cases. They had a lot more cookies and candy than cakes in the display case actually.

They are moving to a new, bigger location soon too. I am not familiar with Las Vegas ( other than the Strip) so I don't know where but I can see why they need more space with that number of orders.

You should've identified yourself as a decorating enthusiast! A couple of years ago, a couple of girlfriends and I were planning a b-day trip to Vegas. I e-mailed the bakery to see if we could get a "behind the scenes" tour because 3 of the 4 of us are Wilton instructors. They were very nice and accommodating and said when we were in town to stop by and they would show us around! Unfortunately, the trip fell through. Next time I'm in Vegas, I'll definitely plan on stopping by and see about getting behind the counter. Try it - what's the worst that can happen?

Gosh, I'm envious that you were even in the shop! How exciting! I admire the work they do.

I'm trying to convince hubby to go to the Amer Retail Bakery Exposition convention in Vegas this coming Sept ..... if we do, I'm going to try to schedule a visit here!

Freed's Bakery is wonderful! I grew up in Las Vegas, so as a child I only knew Freed's cakes for mine and my family's birthdays! And of course, I had to have one of their cake's for my wedding. I also love their cookies and pastries! Now that I live in GA, every time I plan a trip to visit my parents in Vegas, I try to go around someones birthday so I have a good excuse to visit their shop and pick up some goodies and a cake.

Kim, that's sooooooo cool. Sounds like they'll have their hands full on the 7th.
