Help!!! Please Help!!! Coloring Problem
Decorating By alittlesliceofhaven Updated 5 Jun 2007 , 3:58pm by alittlesliceofhaven
Okay, I am very new to decorating (I've done three cakes). My DH told a co-worker I would make his daughter a Dora cake
(I guess he believes I can do anything
). I am going to do a FBCT. I got the picture off the net and I am making all 19
colors of frosting that I will need. I am stuck on how to make fuchsia skirt.
I tried the following combos:
1.) Americolors deep pink and Wilton sky blue with more of the pink
2.) the above and then added a bit of Americolor red red
3.)Americolor regal purple with some red
4.) Americolor red red and royal blue with some deep pink
5.) Americolor red red and royal blue with more red red
nothing gives me that bright fuchsia color. I am trying to make it tonight so I can put it all together tomorrow. Or does Americolor make a fuchsia that I should pick up tomorrow and go from there? Who would have thought a simple picture of Dora would have so many different shades of colors. HOw do you ladies do it? Honestly I have deep admiration for you all!! With fondant, MMF, sugarpaste, gunpaste, marzipan and all that you do - your cakes are amazing. And I can't even figure out how to make a color.
Thanks in advanced!!!
Hi, I am really not very good very BC decorations or icings, I am from Holland and here it is custom to decorate the cake with rolled fondant or marzipan. BUT..
I do have the Whimsical book and for fuchsia they advise 2 drops of purple and 3 drops of pink to get the right color in BC. Goodluck with your cake!!
Wish I could help you, but I just dont have the time to decorate at the moment.
However I did a search and found the following links for you in the forum:

Or else you could do a seach for dora cakes in the gallery and then send a private message to the very talented ladys who have made this design.
I think it is sweet that your husband is so supportive of your passion for cake decorating.
Good luck and make sure you post a picture when you have finished it. Am sure it will be beautiful.
Thank you ladies! Very helpful advice and I didn't have to go out and buy another color. I'll post a picture later today when I finish.
