I've been asked to make a 3d platypus that will serve 25. Need some ideas such as what pans would work best and how would you decorate to look realistic?
Thanks,
Amy
Wow...
Okay - well, it's a long slender tube... so my first thought was a sheetcake carved. The problem is that according to my charts, a 9x13 serves 24, so you'd need to do a 1/2 sheetcake and carve it down., Maybe you can even use some of the scrap pieces to make the arms and the legs... as for beak, I'd do that in gumpaste or modeling chocolate.
Chocolate fondant or chocolate plastique would look awesome, especially fi you dusted it with cocoa powder to get a almost fuzzy look...
These things scare the freaking crap out of me. It's just not natural, shudder.

Please show us the pic when you are done. I bet it will look cute.
