I have been requested to make a flip flop cake for a bridal shower with about 50 people. I have never made one before and am not sure how much cake I will need (I am just starting out). I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions! Should I just make the flip flops or should I put the flip flops on a sheet cake? Thanks!

If you want to make a layered sheet cake, I would suggest either a 9x13x2 (45) or 11x15x2 (60). These party servings would be 1-1/2x2x4".

Refer to Wilton cake preparation and seving charts:

http://www.wilton.com/cake/cakeprep/baking/times/index.cfm

Or if you want a single layer sheet cake with 2x2x2" pieces, a 12x18 would yield 54 servings.

For more information on cutting 2x2x2" pieces for other sheet cake sizes:

You could use the 7-3/4 x 5-5/8" oval pans (Wilton Course 2 kit) to make flip flops for the top of the cake.
