My daughter was sick this morning with a low grade fever and that's it. Just the fever. By 11:40am the fever had gone from 100 degrees to 104 degrees. I am trying to get her some Tylonol (sp?) and next thing I know she is having a seizure. I called 911 and they came and took her to the ER. Thank goodness she is going to be ok, but she still seems a little groggy or something, but she isn't acting normal. Now, she does have some medical history. She is 20 months old. She has Cerebal Palsy (CP) and Multi-cystic dysplastic kidney. The kidney thing is that she has cysts all over her one kidney and hers doesn't work. She doesn't really talk much either, but that could be because she is the youngest of 4. She has 3 older brother. She has to see alot of people. She has had one seizure before, and unfotunately, that one was when we were on vacation out of the country. I feel bad for my boys, because my oldest was about to be home from kindergarten and my two other boys didn't know what was going on. I had to leave them with a firefighter and one firefighter had to go get my oldest from the bus. I bet he was kinda scared. The firefighters had to stay because my husband wasn't home by the time the ambulance was ready to leave.
Now, I don't want anyone to feel sorry for her. She is a very intelligent 20 month old. In fact, if a person didn't know anything was wrong with her they would never know. I just thought I would share a scary experience.
Oh, my, I pray she gets back to her normal self soon! You must've been so frightened.
That must have been horrible for you. I can only imagine if that would happen to one of mine. It sounds like you handled it like a champ, so hang in there. Kids bounce back from all kinds of things and she'll be better then new in no time.
I can imagine it must've been very frightening for all of you... That being said, I know she's probably a little fighter. I have a twelve yr old son w/ CP. He doesn't feel sorry for himself and doesn't want anyone else to either. They just want to be part of the gang. Sometimes, I think that part of what these kids have to deal with makes them turn into such extra-ordinary human beings; they are beautiful... I hope she is feeling better and I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers ![]()
I'm sure she will be out of it for a bit after her seizure. The good news is that fever seizures are relatively common in little ones, even those without other issues in their medical history. My family has a history of genetic seizure disorders. I grew up seeing them, and then developed them. For me, isn't nothing unusual. That said, I know how frightening it can be when it's your child. The "nothing unusual" turned in to a whole new ballgame when my then 5yr old had her first seizure.
I hope your little one is on the mend soon.
I'm happy she's ok. It always frightens me when babies are sick because they can't tell you what hurts or what's wrong. I have a little girl who's 2 1/2 and is talking quite a bit now, but it still worries me when she is sick. Hopefully yours will recover soon. ![]()
Thank you everyone for your concern. She is doing much better now. The day after she had the seizure I had to take her back to the ER, because she seemed really out of it, kind of like she was drugged. She couldn't open her eyes from big, she was very very cranky. They said that she must have been very tired from everything that happened. You know, my mom made the same suggestion about making a cake for the firemen. Now, I think I will make one for them. I thought it was kinda silly at first, but now that people are saying I should make them a cake, I think I will. but, my daughter is doing well now, back to her old self. Thank you again, everyone!!!!!

I'm so glad that your daughter is going to be OK - that must have been so scary for you. She sounds like a little fighter though!
My husband is a firefighter and I have to say that at least at his station - all the guys are great dads and are great with kids so I'm sure they did their best to not make it scary for your kids to be home with them until your husband got home.
Also, I can attest to the fact that firefighters LOVE cake or desserts of any kind. They disappear in minutes - literally. I think it would be great if you wanted to make them a cake in thanks. ![]()
