what you think.
I made a cake for my daughters 9th birthday. It was my first time working with fondant.
I have made tons of cake before, but never with fondant.
Everyone keeps telling me I should go into business doing it, but I dont think Im good enough.
Anytime I make a cake, Im super careful with transport and such, but this cake I really messed up. I gave Shrek a big brown dot on his head and screwed up the fondant and I was setting him up since I assembled him on site.

So can you take a look at my pics and tell me what you think?
I wont be hurt, I just want some CC. Thank you!
OH, btw, I cant get the pic right on here, thats why I didnt upload it to the post. Sorry.

i don't think it's bad at all, especially for your first time. maybe shrek needed a bath? icon_lol.gif don't be discouraged, practice makes perfect and if you like working with fondant, stick with it! there are so many things you can do with it!

good luck!

How long have you been baking and decorating? Did you take classes or did you learn on your own?
If you have such a big demand for your cakes, you've got to be doing something right! Maybe you can start with what you know how to do. Try to takes some classes on handling fondant. When you have practice, it's really easy.

You practiced something unknown to you on your daughter's cake. That's also how I try new things! What are family and friends for? icon_wink.gif

That's great! You're going to love it and it'll make a big difference in your work. I started out on my own, too. When I started taking classes, I learned so many things I couldn't even have imagined!
Good luck!

I really think you did a great job. I've been thinking about doing cakes for the public again after years of being out. I've been trying new cake recipes to find the best one and I am trying a Toba Garrett recipe for French Vanilla Buttercream tonight. I've got to try the MMF. Everyone's doing it. Again--- really a great job!

I think Shrek looked great! thumbs_up.gif The kids at the party must have loved it! My 5 year old DS was sitting here with me a moment ago and asked me "When are you going to make me a cool Shrek cake like that?" I think if you love baking and decorating, you should definitly consider making a go of it.

I personally have never taken any classes either, but I really love trying out new things. Plus it's nice to know that the CC community is always here when you need help. icon_smile.gif

I think you did a wonderful job!! Shrek looks so real! And who cares about a little brown dot anyway... maybe it's from his new baby?!?!

Have fun with the wilton classes, you'll enjoy them!

I think Shrek looks great. And we all know he likes to bathe in mud, so what's a little smudge? I bet the kids didn't even notice.

I really liked his smile. You did a great job! And I'm sure you will enjoy your classes. I learned a lot on my own, but I learned a lot more in classes!

Keep going, and happy decorating!
