I don't post here often, but I'm making it a point to share in the future, starting with this funny story about Whitney...the dog in my image. Thursday the 6th was my 4th anniversary and I also had a wedding cake due for Saturday. I had my cakes all baked and hidden in very high places so she wouldn't eat them while my husband and I were out to dinner. I also left a pound of butter on the counter to soften for the next day's decorating. BIG MISTAKE!!! We get home from dinner on Thursday and I walk in the back door through the laundry room and see my pound of butter on the family room floor. 2 sticks still in the box, but .....lets just say....gross! 1 other stick had obviously been consumed and we assumed that the other had also because there was no sign of it anywhere......forward to Friday.....the cakes are decorated and we're expecting my husband's stepbrother, wife and 2 children for an overnight visit while my nephew's baseball team plays in a tournament in town. I'm at the kitchen table all afternoon making gumpaste flowers and my little "butterbean" Whitney trots through the kitchen with a big sore on the top of her nose. I know that this means that she has "hidden" something somewhere....she gets the sore from rubbing on bedspreads etc...trying to hide goodies in the pillows etc...I think to myself...hmmmmm...BUTTER!!!! she didn't hide anything in the family room couch because I've been close by all day and would have noticed, I go upstairs and check all of the beds because afterall, we're having houseguests and it would be just delightful for them to find a stick of butter in their beds when they go to sleep....no luck....no butter in the beds so I give up my search and go back to my gumpaste. My husband arrives home from work and questions me about the scab on little "buttercup's" nose...I told him I searched.....couldn't find anything buried anywhere. The guests arrive ....we're catching up on small talk and my husband's other brother calls and he takes the phone in the formal living room and notices the cushions on the couch in there are messed up.....he reaches under a pillow to straighten them and imagine what he found. He walks into the kitchen with an unrecognizable stick of butter in his hand...still in the wrapper, black dog hair and all stuck in it..one of the most disgusting things I ever saw....my sister in law says "WHAT IS THAT?????" We explained like only embarrassed dog parents could.......and had a huge laugh! Gotta love her!!!
That's so funny! I'm glad you were all able to laugh about it. My little beagle doesn't usually hide food, but she has made off with plenty of it when it was left unguarded or stashed. They certainly keep us on our toes, huh??
Such a cute story.
I can tell you love your dog. Thank you for sharing.
Boy am I so glad that my dog is only 4 lbs full grown and has absolutely no way of getting onto the counters short of someone putting him there....lol.
