Hello everyone.
I was just speaking with a lady who has tons on cake decorating stuff, that I am very much interested in purchasing. I was asking her what the local code was for doing cakes. She told me that they required a second kithchen. What am I suppose to do about that, and why do they require that. I have already applied for my license, got a website up and running, and have even been making my own business cards. I have been so exited about getting this going. Now this. I was asking her about a local woman who lives close that does cakes in her home. She told me that her husband just recently turned their garage into a second kitchen. I don't have a garage. I could get a building and put kitchen stuff in it, (IF I WAS RICH) and we didn't have a business already that we run. I don't think I could ask my husband to do that for me when that might be money that would fix our skidsteer or big truck if it broke down.
Sorry for the long run on. But what should I do.
Maybe in the mean time (while you're saving to get rich, lol) you could just make cakes for friends & family.
That's pretty much what I do. I have made them for friends of friends, but I make sure they know that I do not have my liscence. And, if it's a wedding cake, you have to tell that because some venues, etc. require a liscenced baker to make the cake.
It's tough only making cakes just for cost. But, everyonce in a while I get good tips from my family. One time I got a $40 tip!!!
Good Luck on whatever you do!
You need the same thing in my area. (I konw it stinks). I checked into it and asked about a home run business and using my own kitchen. They said I could turn my own kitchen into a comercial one and it'd work. Basicly stainless steel everything. I know, still a big expence but not as much building a whole new seperate kitchen. Maybe you could call the small business bureau in your area and they can help you out with either of your options.
I know this doesn't help any, but my husband always says you have to spend money to make money.
You could start out small with a small building, look for yard sales and discontinued sales and pick up your appliances that way. I got free kitchen cabinets from a local elderly highrise that was replacing them with new. I have a small kitchen in my basement.
I talked to my mom and she suggested that maybe I could use my grandmothers kitchen. My grandparents have recently passed away, and there house is not being used. Thinking that was a good idea, I asked my husband what he thought. Well he didn't, because if something went wrong he would have to pay for it. I could get a small building from some friends that build insulated buildings and put it behind our house, but I don't know if my husband would want that. I mean this is something I really want to do. I don't want to just do cakes, I want to do decorated chocolate chip cookies, cookie bouquets, and other things.
Do any of you know if they make cookie cutters the shape of race cars or flags and where I might be able to get them.
Thanks so much for your input.
California is the same way as far as the kitchen goes...I just bake cakes for cost and tips. Best of luck to you! ![]()
