How can I make a SIMPLE chocolate butter cream. I have cocoa powder (Hershey's brand) and I also have chocolate candy melts (Wilton). I've seen posts on here where someone used candy melts as a coloriser for thier buttercream but I wasn't sure if it would work for this or not.

I was also wondering if just adding cocoa powder to my regular butter cream recipe would work? Regular recipe we use is 1/2 butter 1/2 crisco clear vanilla 2lbs powdered sugar. It's delicious everyone loves it I just don't know how to take it from white to chocolate lol....

Thanks in advance!

Also if anyone has a better and simple recipe I'd love to hear it. This cake is due tomorrow, I'm making it now and the butter cream will be made in the next hour when hubby gets home.

Anybody that can help??? Hubby is home and is ready to make the BC but I've held him up temporarily lol. The cakes are done and are wrapped sitting on the counter waiting to be iced and I also have to slip out to the store soon so I'd like to at least have the BC made before I leave. icon_smile.gif Thanks again in advance!

I add a little melted chocolate to my 1/2 crisco 1/2 butter buttercream recipe. I don't know what weight, just half of one of the big bars, if that helps.

you can use 2/3 cup coco powder and 3 oz of melted unsweetened chocolate to turn your icing to chocolate. Hope that helps! thumbs_up.gif

I have added a little cocoa poweder to my bc and it tastes great. I have never measured it, just added until it tasted right and was the right color.

TIP: be sure to sift it, or at least run a whisk through the cocoa, or you can get lumps.

It left the bc with a real fudgy flavor.

I just made my first attempt at chocolate buttercream this weekend. I just added Hershey's cocoa powder to my reqular buttercream recipe. I had to add just a little more milk, but it tasted great. All my family raved about it. Try it with a small amount first and see what you think.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Hubby added the cocoa to this and I told him when he brought me a spatula full/half full lol to sample that it was a touch too wet and to add a little more powdered sugar so he did and brought it back again for tasting and OMG!!!!!!!! it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooo yummy!!!! It's like nothing I've ever tasted before... He says it reminds him of the chocolate filling in the yellow cake... "Chocolate Junior Cakes" is what they are called... I can't recall having one or remembering this taste... it's better then the grocery store chocolate buttercream and it's kinda like a chocolate whipped cream... it's really smooth and silky and oh so yummy!!!!

I just got back from picking up the roses at the grocery store bakery icon_cry.gif long story in another thread lol... I can't make them so I bought them icon_sad.gif I feel so cheap! Anyway I've got to bake another cake now to make this a 2 layer chocolate overload and then on to the decorating! icon_biggrin.gif I think that's my favorite part lol. I decided that I'm going to keep the little one for us so we can have dessert tonight lol. (I made an 8" round and had some batter left over so I made a 6" round and need to do the same again for the 2nd layer and planned on giving the one little one to my daughter's friend down the road's family and keeping the other for us since they are sooooooooo thick/tall I don't think I'll need a 2nd layer on the little ones I can just torte them lol) Anyway.... that was a long (section) lol

Thanks for all your help gang!!! I'll be sure to post if I get any feedback on this cake (it's for my old middle school teacher who saved me from some HUGE mistakes like dropping out in 8th grade lol whom is also my god daughter's teacher) so I hope to get some positive feedback on this as well as some future business lol

OhMyGoodies, you're making me so hungry for chocolate! I just looked up that recipe and printed it out. Can't wait to try it ... anything that has the word "easy" in it makes me happy.

Here's the link so anybody else doesn't have to "search" for it.
