Not sure if this is the proper forum. Pls correct me if Im wrong.

(All prices in Canadian funds)

In our baking we use alot of whip cream for topping. Doing so we take the easy route & buy 'Cool Whip'. But as time went by we realized this was becoming too much of an expence. Regular price - $2.99 per small 1 litre container(rarely it goes on sale for $1.99).

Do you have any suggestions as to how we can save money in this way?

1) Better Price? If buying in bulk - what size? How much? How long will it last? (We used to freeze the 'cool whip' for a while. container says it stays fresh in fridge for 2 weeks, longer in freezer).
2) Make it ourselves? We feel this might take too much time & extra work, especially when we get large orders. Or do u have a recipe that might help?

We would really like to hear any suggestions u might have.

Thanks

Can you get Rich's Bettercreme or Pastry Pride in Canada?? Check with your local warehouse club, restaurant supply, even your local supermarket may be able to sell some to you. These are both whipped type icings and would probably be much more economical for you.

I make my own whipped cream any time a recipe calls for cool whip. It bothers me that cool whip has partially hydrogenated oil. I see no reason why whipping cream would have oil?! Don't think I don't eat anything with it, I do, lots of it. Candy bars, chips, cake mixes. Its only cool whip that is bothers me on.

I buy heavy cream from Costco, half gallon size. If I don't use enough before one week from when I opened it, I quickly make some ice cream or ganache with it. Then hand them out to friends or family to hand out to their co-workers or friends.

Sorry, the men in kilts threw me off the subject. I only use real whipped cream in my icings. Although I do love cool whip on just about everything else. Guess this doesn't help with you question. Ü
