I just did another post asking a question about the 'Easy MMF' recipe. I got some answers and thought ok..i can do this. So... my MMF was soooooooooooo dry. What did I do wrong?? It didn't seem anywhere close to being smooth. I feel like never trying it again. It was a waste of money and a waste of time and my kitchen is a mess and I feel like crying. WHAT did I DO WRONG?? icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

when I make my mmf...I NEVER use all the powder sugar.....did you use it all? maybe thats why it was so dry?

is it hard to knead or dry like crumbling?

Did you use marshmallow or creme?
I made it last week - worked great - except for me not rolling it thin enough.
Maybe your house is dry.

Here is a bump I've never made it but I think there is a forum that tells what to do if too dry, sticky etc... I'll try to find it.

You have to add a little at a time and watch the consistency of the fondant. When it is no longer shiny you have to begin thinking you might almost "be there"... You can always knead more in during the kneading process. It's like playdough..............don't give up. It's great stuff!

Try adding a few teaspoons of Crisco; also put it on your hands when you knead it (or on your dough hook).

I dont know exactly how much I end up using....I pour in half the bag and mix with the kitchen aid...then knead in more ...and eye it as a I go....I always have some left in the bag....

I checked your other post ...Ive never used marshmellow creme to make it.....did you use less sugar since youo were 2oz short on the creme?

yes, i used less sugar. I've read on here that the 'Easy MMF' with marshmallow creme is easier because you don't have to use the microwave. Should I try it the other way??

i think it's better if you try the other recipe (using mini marshmallow)...using the microwave is very easy..just do it every 30 seconds..let us know how it turns out ok? don't give up..mmf is fantastic..especially for me who cannot smooth buttercream even if my life depends on it.. icon_lol.gif ...gud luck!

I said on the other thread that I used a 16 oz bag of big marshmallows. It worked fine - takes 45 seconds in the micro to melt.
Then they are liquidy so they blend in better. I've never seen the mmf recipe using creme.

Maybe try microwaving it a little bit to soften it, then knead with Crisco?? I made mine with the marshmallows and it was no problem at all. I also did not use all of the sugar - just enough to so that it was not sticky. Don't give up. icon_sad.gif Once you get it, you will be so happy you didn't quit!!! icon_biggrin.gif

So...I tried it with mini marshmallows AND IT WORKED! icon_biggrin.gif I did it on a square cake and I didn't know how to smooth down the corners. It was just plain white because I wasn't even going to try and add color. I know that practice makes perfect but I have 2 kids, 3 yr old and 1 yr old and don't really have time to practice cakes, PLUS I am a full time college girl. So...I don't know if I should keep on trying to get it right or wait until Wilton 3. I am half way through Wilton Course 1 right now. So, anyways, thanks everyone for your help.
