I get the basic concept, but the part I dont understand is the part of the folded petal around the floral wire and attaching it to the other petals. Do you put that folded petal with the wire through the hole of the other petals so that it goes in the center? Can someone explain the steps to me, because I am very confused.

The only carnation I've done is for the Wilton gumpaste class but it didn't call for wire. Sorry I'm no help but here's a bump.

put the wire thru the middle of the round carnation petal...then fold the carnation petal in half enclosing the top of the wire
Then brush some water or glue on the right side and fold it to the center...the turn it over and repeat..pinch in the base to round shape.

Then cut out the rest and frill...add a touch of water or glue and thread the wire through..pinch together at base and slightly up the flower...
Repeat with more rows..

There is more than one way to do these...I was taught one way but have read in a book other ways...so as long as you achieve the look that is good!!

Hope my instructions make sense...

JaneK - thanks for the instructions - i had to read it a couple of time to understand it, but it's not the instructions - trust me, it's my thick head. I will try it tonight. I was following the instructions on the Wilton Gumpaste Flowers book and for some reason was just not coming out right.

Marccrand - how did they instruct you in the class?
