I made a Sweet 16 cake this weekend and thought it would look nice with swirled/wispy bc on the top tier and smooth on the bottom. When the cake was done, I thought it came out pretty good - the customer loved it (that's what counts, right icon_smile.gif )!

Now, as I print out the picture I'm questioning the different textures. In the picture I think the top tier looks sloppy not wispy. I'm curious as to what you think about the smooth/wispy combo. Thanks for sharing your opinions.

I know what you mean; I used that texture for a beach-style cake once, with sandy-colored icing. Looked great in person, and awful in the picture.

I like it. Very nice design, and did you do the "16"? It's fantastic!

The nice thing about decorating cakes, there really is no set "way". I think it looks good with the 2 different textures. It is the same to me as using different shaped cakes(square/round) stacked together. The little mismatch looks good together=) JMHO, Jen

I think the fact that the lower cake is SMOOTH makes it obvious that it's meant to be rough. Plus it's just a really cute cake.

oh, I like it! I think it adds variety to the texture of the cake overall, and then the little red flowers give it a layered quality. Great job!

Thanks everyone. I know we are our own worst critics but, usually I feel like pictures hide some of my decorating flaws. This time, it seemed to create more. icon_cry.gif

I saw the woman who ordered the cake today and she thanked me again and said how much they loved it (design and taste). That's what counts, right! icon_biggrin.gif
