I am doing my first wedding cake next month and the couple came over yesterday for the tasting. Anyway she brought over her cake topper which is like a bride/groom that stands probably 10 inches tall. Anyway I am a little nervous about it staying put on top of the cake because the base is relatively small. So I figure this is what i need to do. Please tell me if this is right or if you have any other hints.
I will place it on it's own cardboard circle cut to the same size as the base (which is only like 1.5- 2 inch circle) and secure it with RI??
I will dowel the cake for the topper. The think I am a little concerned about though is that since the base is so small the dowels will be really close to the center dowel.
Then I figure I will try and use RI again to secure the topper to the cake. (It is a fondant cake)
Is this alright? I supposed to that I need to be sure that the top cake is very level so the thing doesnt fall over.
Had one of these a couple of weeks ago. It's the white one with blue dots in my pics. I put 3 dowels in the top tier and made them slightly below the surface of the icing. Them placed a circle I had cut from a white styrofoam plate. this gave a flat supported surface for the topper. They weight pushed everthing slightly into the icing (since the dowels were lower), which worked better than the circle kinda 'wobbling' on top of the dowels. It was really heavy andwouldn't have successfully just sat on the cake.
I don't use center dowels, but if you have one of those, it's just extra support for the heavy topper.
Yeah, it is that sort of topper like yours. But I dont know if that would work with fondant, would it?
