Does anyone know how to sculpt a cake in the shape of a dog or poodle? I tried to contact some of the members who've already sculpted a few dog shaped cakes but they have not responded.

Any instructions or help is greatly appreciated!

Did you contact me??I am soooooo Sorry If I didn't reply...red faced!

I made my 3D Dog using 2 wondermold cakes. One slightly smaller. One for the head and one for the rump.I used a 6 inch round cut on half for the body.I then used 2 mini wondermold cakes cut on half for the hind and front legs and cake scraps for the feet and ears.Covered in grass tip.Made the eyes and tongue and that's it.It was actually easier that I thought it would be....

Not poodles, but I hope it will help you.

as one of the posters in the second link:

to adapt either to a poodle not so hard.

first two pics to help: pic 1 and pic 2

of course the body should be more the size of the dog in the first post. but much wider in front than in back

the chief difference is all the pom-pom's of hair a poodle w/ a show cut has (had a poodle growing up -- show cut only once...then puppy cut for rest of his life...that show cut is too hard to maintain)

ok...so how to modify. basically the whole body gets are really close cut, almost a buzz cut w/ pom-poms left one each foot at ankle area

at the top of the hips, a collar at the neck and pom-pom on tip of tail (which by the way is docked when they are puppies -- it is not that short natrually) and that infamous (gives bad hair day new meaning) top-knot and those ears!!!! basically the face ends up looking like it is peaking out from a cloud (of hair!!! that takes FOREVER to tease)

ice the body smooth and then build up the poms using sports balls cut in half and then iced. the head also build up even higher w/ half a sports ball -- you're going for the pompidor to end all pompidor looks (stuck in th 50's!) look. poms on each ear as well.

a cheat to consider....if you can find them -- snow ball cakes -- the ones that are already a half ball and covered in colored icing and coconut. Could use those for the poms.

for tail...sports ball stuck on pretzel rod and iced.

to really emphasize the skinnyness of legs vs. pom..legs also pretzel sticks with half of sports ball layed on top.

now if this is for a fantasy fun look (like a 50's party) then, make it pink! (gag)....and toss a bow in the top-know (double gag)

here's a sketch: all the circles are the poms, and the rest is iced very smooth. note on head how the pompidor goes out over the eyes.

HTH

(egads!!! -- and i thought I was up late last nite!?!?! look at the time on the original post! ACB --when do you sleep?!?)

I don't think it was you that I contacted so don't feel bad. There was someone on here who made a black poodle but can't remember who.

Thanks for your instructions. I can't wait to try this. My sorority using the poodle as our mascot so I want to practice making a poodle cake before our Founder's day banquet begins in November.

Doug
Thank you also for the instructions. I'm so excited about making this cake. I've never made a sculpted cake before so wish me luck.

Thanks to everyone who responded so quickly on this post.

I have one in my gallery. Unfortunetly not the
best since the humidity was high. I used
the lamb pan from wilton and added on everything.

another GREAT idea!!

took a peak...oh how cute...love the beret! and the expression reminds me of my family's poodle...always a bit aloof! icon_lol.gifthumbs_up.gif
