I'm making a treasure chest cake today. I have the gold sparkle dust to paint onto my fondant for the "metal" corners of the chest.

Do I need to tint my fondant? Or will the sparkle dust cover up the white?

If I need to tint it, should I tint it yellow?

Yes, pretint it to the base color. Try the gold highlighter next time. As pearl dust is my best friend, I can't do without the highlighter, I use it all the time.

Is it the Wilton sparkle dust?

Thanks!

What is a highlighter? Will tinting it yellow be sufficient? I don't know what colors to use to tint it "gold".

cherrybomb, this is the sparkle dust purchased from here at CC.

I questioned "Highlighter" also, so I searched and found this:

I'll be buying some!

Pyseas, try Americolor's Gold to tint your fondant. I use that color quite a bit and love it!

The gold dust is much like the pearl dust effect, only gold shimmer to it. I use the highlighter to give the metallic gold or silver chrome look. Big difference. Ask for the gold or silver highlighter when you buy more luster dust. You apply it the same as wet luster dust, with good strong lemon abstract. Try it, you'll be soooo amazed and so will your customers. Some won't believe it is actually edible.

I have the old gold luster dust and it looks really cool...I used it to make gold tiles on a St Paddy's day cake.
