I made a purse cake (gold swirly) in a couple of hours yesterday. There is nothing hard about this one.
If you want a cake with the handles facing up, you must plan ahead....#1, they need to dry....#2, you need to figure out how they will stand up.
Even handles that are hanging will look more realistic if they have dried a bit before you add them...that way they won't droop.
If you're doing something like a LV logo bag.....the logos were the biggest pain in the neck.
I've never made flip flops, but I would imagine, like a bow, that the thong part needs to be supported when drying..
Post your photos!!!

ok..clues and hints as to how to do them....
the LV looks easy enough (if you have a steady hand)...
but that other design?!?!?!? is there some kind of stamp you can use???
(and speaking as a guy..what gives....why is THAT purse so popular!?)

I did them all by hand....I have read where others have created their own stamps with foam for them. I understand stencils don't work that great....from what I have read....perhaps someone else has more info on the stencils.
Thanks for the advice. If I did the handles for the purse; the thongs for the flops this week, would that be too far away? I have only used fondant one time. That was doing cut outs. So I don't really count that. These cakes are for my neices 14th birthday party. Her invitations have a purse & a pair of flops. I'll use that as how to decorate them so that the cakes match.
The earlier the better....2 weeks in advance is not too long...just think in advance about how they will be attached to the cake....do you need to put dowels in them or wire? You won't be able to do that after they have dried...
I'm sure you'll do fine....I'm looking forward to the pictures...
