I have never made fondant roses-well I haven't made anything with fondant except to cover a cake with MMF. Anyway I havent been able to take wilton course 3 yet. I was going to just try and teach myself now. Do most people make them with the wilon step saver cut outs (or what ever they are called), or do you make them the old fashioned way of forming each petal? Is MMF okay to make roses with? Is gumpaste easier than fondant? Thanks

I tried my first MMF roses the other day and they turned out way better than my BC roses. They are fairly easy to make, I just formed them myself from the diredtions I found on here somewhere.

I followed the instructions in Course 3 booklet. The roses are very time-consuming and people would say they're putsy but they are beautiful! You need the thin/thick sponges, the long plastic tool, a decorator brush and some liquid like vanilla extract. Something to do while you're watching TV.

I mix a bit of gumpaste with my fondant to make roses. That way, you can roll them out thinner. They turned out really pretty. I used the gumpaste book directions (Wilton's) and cut each petal separately.

I'm in the middle of making about 150 of them for a wedding cake. First time making the roses but they are coming out pretty nice. I also mix gumpaste with fondant and use the Wilton cutter/sponge/ball tool and meringue powder mixed with water to attach the petals.

OMG! TAKES FOREVER!!! I wish this wasn't for such a great friend... I'd charge a fortune to make this cake for someone else!
