I got an order to mail 2 cakes to a someone in another state....USPS offers overnight service for about $20-30, depending on the weight, of course. Compare that with FedEx or UPS at a whopping $60.00...and they told me they can't guarantee it will be handled gently, whereas the post office offers a special service for about $6.00 for special handling of perishable goods.
If anyone knows more...please add to this thread, as it is the first time I will be mailing cakes. I had to make 2 rather simple designs that can be wrapped, so this is the first of two. The next one will be a small and simple gift box cake.
Thanks for looking!!!
Thank you so much boonati....
A lot of folks are interested in how I mailed this baby....
I am on my way to the post office...I wrapped each cake with saran wrap to keep them clean, then I cut styrofoam pieces to sort of box them in and then I used soft styrofoam packing sheets to fill in the gaps. Topped it off with another piece of styrofoam. I'll let you know the outcome!
[quote="ibmoser"]Did you say in another post that this is hand-painted? Geez - quote]
Thanks for the nice remarks...I did paint this, swirl by swirl. It was a lot of very therapeutic, mind-relaxing, thoughtful swishes of my brush. There is something very intriguing about the "swirl" in my mind. I totally didn't charge for all this work, nor did the client ask for it. They would have been happy with plain fondant. I can't tell you how much I enjoy doing this.....probably why I normally do as much as I can to the cakes. I'm lucky enough to get paid for my hobby!
Your cake is beyond beautiful,it is simply STUNNING!!!!
