I have my first wedding cake to do, and it's for July 29. Just met with the bride tonight for the first time.
I don't really like her idea of what she wants.......first it was going to be 3 tiered square cakes with ribbon along the bottom and white buttercream to feed 30-40, fine very simple. Now she wants to add either pink or peach roses 8 on the large round tier, 6 on the second round tier, and 4 on the smallest plus a pink/peach shell border to feed 50-70 people. She wants me to put the roses along the edge with the shell border....??? I really don't think this will look good. Is it just me?
I quoted her $70.00 plus another $9.00 for the roses (was that too much .50 cents a rose?) Am I out to lunch on the pricing?
How can I make this cake look good? I'm thinking of doing all roses around the edge.......just to make sure it looks good but I don't want to lose too much money wise because I think I am under charging a lot!
By the way did I tell you I suck at making roses? and shell borders?
I have no idea how I'm going to pull this off! Any help would truly be appreciated, I know I can count on the people here at CC! ![]()
My suggestion is to upload the pricing matrix under the business forum. You can plug in your cakes and flower requirements to see if you are charging enough. You can adjust the prices to your comfort, butr at least you won't feel like you have undercharged.
Good luck,

So there is 2 cakes? I havent ever made a wedding cake, but it sounds like she is getting a good deal(thats only like 70 cents a slice if I understand correctly!) Anyway, could you just do "clumps" of roses? Like having them all in one place, spreading out from one place, does that make sense? Also sounds like a lot of cake to feed 100 people. Maybe you could talk her into just one cake for the $70.
Okay, maybe I did misunderstand, did she change it from a square to a round...not two cakes?
I'm confused - she went from square to round?
I can see the square with the added roses along the bottom - but I would do odd numbers - not even. That is not weird to me. Doing on round I think I would do them on the top on the cake cascading downward - on alternating sides.
