I made a batch of MMF last night. When I wrapped it in saran wrap it was sticky. I just covered a practice cake and it rolled and covered smoothly.

BUT my family hates the taste they said it is chewy and does not have that melt in your mouth frosting taste. How can I improve the flavor or is that just how it tastes?

I want to make a cake using MMF this week for work but I am afraid they will all hate it.

I am begging for tips and hints on how to improve the taste as I love how smooth MMF makes the cakes.

How does your family, friends and clients feel about the taste.

Thanks

Maria

I'm afraid that's just the way it tastes! Some people love it, some people hate it.

You could try making regular fondant or chocolate fondant to see if they like it. Did you put buttercream underneath? When you bring it for the others, if they don't like it they can peel it off and just eat the buttercream. Or is it a paid cake?

People around here have no idea what fondant even is! I explain it to them...secretly hoping that they'll allow me to incorporate it into their design! icon_twisted.gif lol

Good luck

Actually, I think of all the fondants, MMF tastes the best. My family likes it a lot. Did you maybe just roll it too thick? How much buttercream did you put underneath? It can be "chewy" - unfortunately that's just part of the texture.

You can flavor MMF with anything you want. In fact, I was at a seminar and the instructor flavored the MMF with a little citric acid and tangerine candy flavor - tasted just like a Starbusrt candy!

I always add 2 tsp. of almond extract to my MMF, I'm guessing you could any flavor extract to help improve the taste.

I also try to roll it as thin as I can get away with so that it's not a big, thick coating of fondant.

I have found that most people simply don't like the chewy texture / taste, whether it's homemade or storebought. However, the last one I made, the customer said she didn't LOVE it, but that it was the best fondant she had ever tasted. icon_smile.gif So that's just the best I can hope for!

If people want the look that fondant gives to the cake, they'll be fine with it, and I tell them they can leave it on their plate just like a pizza crust if they choose not to eat it.

Fondant is generally chewy. I use a regular layer of buttercream underneath the fondant so people still have icing on their cakes if they choose not to eat the fondant.

Fondant is just chewy. But you can improve the flavor with different flavorings. I like to use butter/vanilla, my customers love it on cookies. Had a tasting today, used MMF on cakes, everyone ate it.
