just wanted to get an idea how much you guys think this cake should be. its 5,8,12 inch cakes. the top 2 are from scratch cakes--chocolate and carrot. both filled with cream cheese frosting. the bottom layer is a huge block of rice krispy treats (made for the kids since they prefer it over cake). all cakes covered and accented with fondant.

Not sure where you live or what cakes go for in your area. Your cake is very pretty and the design is cool. I would say $75-100, but I am not an expert at pricing, espically since the bottom is not cake but still it took time to decorate.

I charge $3.50 per serving for anything tiered with fondant (or 3D) plus extra for flowers etc. Some people charge more for the work you've done (which was done extremely well, LOVE THE COLORS). Sometimes you have to take into consideration the time it took you to make such a detailed cake. Some do, some don't and some put it into the set price. But I would....LOL

yes, that is the dilemna....the bottom not being cake. the cost for making the bottom layer was the same as if i had used a box mix. but as far as servings...i don't know. fondant cakes in my area run about 3.50 to 4.25 per serving.

I would agree with the $3.50 a person price. Doesnt matter that the bottom is rct. It still cost money to make it.
Also, if you are making it for a friend or relative. I tend to be easier on the price.

Here is my break down - I consider any of my scratch recipes a specialty flavor which cost mor beyond my basic prices. Fondant is also an addional charge on top of the basic price I have. So the following prices are everything added together for this particular cake. Also these prices are for only one layer of filling in each cake. If there are 3 layers there is an additional $0.50 per serving.

5" = 12 servings
8" = 32 servings
12" = 72 servings

Double layer Specialty Cake with fondant = $3.50 serving (minimum)
Double layer basic filling with fondant = $2.75 (I would consider this one the rice crispies-I may end up raising this one another $0.25 serving depending on how much difficulty I had putting in the pillars)

So survey says:
5" = $42.00
8" = $112.00
12" = $198.00

Additional decoration/forming for the boxes/tissue etc. I would add another $50.00 depending on how detailed I really needed to get. But that is also doweling to get those lids to sit on there right and all of the tissue paper formed and put in.

Total : $402.00

I figured the rice crispy treats the same size as cake servings. It falls fairly close to my regular pricing for rice crispy pricing by the time I would add the buttercream, fondant, etc...

I always go by Earlene's chart. It's more realistic to me than the tiny portions of Wilton's.

Hers would say 60, 40 and about 10 for the 5".

I charge at least $5.00 per serving for any cake that looks like something else...including gift boxes....

That would come out to $550. I might charge $.50-$1.00 less per serivng for the Rice Krispie cake. Only cause it's much less work than baking/torting/filling and decorating a real cake.

Someone also told me that there is a software you can buy for your computer called Cakeboss. It tells you how to price out your cakes, manages your inventory, etc. If you google it they have a free demo that you can see what it does. Heard it was really worth it. I figure once I have more business coming in I will invest in it.
