I have heard the rumors that some Walmarts are phasing out their cake decorating supplies. Mine has been fine...until today. I stopped by to pick up cake boards for my cake due TOMORROW. ALL they had was 8 in. and 10 in. circles. FOR MY 10 IN. CAKE!!!! Thank goodness for CC, I had to think quick, but I found a 12 inch foamcore circle that will work even better. Guess I'd better get my online order together, can't count on Walmart anymore!

our walmart never had too much cake stuff anyway but i have noticed it's getting even les and less every time i'm there. it's really going to hurt the decorators around the area since they were/are the only ones who carry any kind of cake decorating stuff. if i need anything i have to drive over an hour to get it or order it online. i'll have to do an inventory list asap to see what i'm going to need for some upcoming cakes and weddings this summer so i can have the stuff here and not have to worry about not finding it here anymore.

I went to my super walmart not too long ago for some things that I can get there cheaper when I don't have a coupon for michael's... and I found the same thing. They didn't have what I was looking for. I was pretty bummed. That's usually where I run to if I need something last minute in the middle of the night.

Our WalMart downsized their cake department some a few months ago, and now they just carry the really basic items. Still end up having to run to the local cake supply store...thankfully we have one just down the street from WalMart. Cake decorating being as popular as it is, you would think WalMart would be able to make money selling the supplies.

Walmart makes me crazy! They just opened what is suppost to be the super walmart. I don't see what is so super about it. They no longer carry the idividual color. You have to pay $8 for a box of 8 tiny little jars, cake boards, what cake boards, and the list goes on and on. I agree thank goodnes for CC!

Oh no! I was just at mine today and never stopped in that section, too much of a hurry....and too tempting.
So...I will be going in the morning to see. Get this, I live within 5 minutes of one Walmart and 10 minutes of another!!! We are flooded with Walmarts, but nothing else. I even have one 20 minutes behind me and then 30 minutes to the right AND the left! icon_lol.gif I am covered in Walmarts, why can't it be cake supply stores???????? icon_cry.gif
Thanks for the tip....I will check mine out and see! I know mine has been phasing out sewing supplies, seems cake would be next!

Why would WalMart want to be more like Target?! Doesn't make sense! WalMart is the leading the retailer! If they want to be just like Target, they will lose a lot of their customers by not selling the things that attract their customers there in the first place...I always choose WalMart because they have what I need, if they want to phase out all the extra's what makes them any better than the next?! Just don't get it! If WalMart stops selling fabric and cake supplies all together, they will no longer be my first choice.

WalMart isn't the only one trying to be like the next guy. Our favorite home imporovement store is Menards, but lately it seems like they are trying to be too much like WalMart. They have added a whole new big grocery department. That doesn't even make sense. Who would go to the home improvement store for groceries?! Stick to what you know! They keep it up and Lowe's and Home Depot will put them out of business.

Just my thoughts...Jodie

It's so sad when things I love go away icon_cry.gif I have already informed DH I will be hitting a few area Walmarts today to check on the cake deco aisle and begin my gathering.
I like Target as much as the next guy, but they do not have what I need! And the only fabric store in my area (Hancock) is also going out of business....what is a girl to do?
Guess I will need to stock up on cake supplies and fabric and hide them in the attic....away from prying eyes icon_twisted.gif that question why I need so much...hahahahahahaaaa

I don't know if they will clearance it or not. I was told by the lady in our fabric dept. that not all WalMarts are doing away with these depts and they would probably not clearance stuff, that it will more than likely just be shipped to a store that is keeping the dept.

Sometimes I think Wal-Mart just doesn't know what they're doing. In the next town to me there was one of the smallest wal-marts ever. They just closed it and opened a Super Wal-mart but the cake decorating dept is much smaller and the fabric dept was discontinued. Go figure! I usually have to go to Michaels or AC Moore for what I need. Frustrating since Wal-mart is 5 min. away.

We're getting a Wamart in the next county sometime in the next couple years (the closest now is 120 miles from us) and I was so excited that I'd be able to get parchment triangles and basic colors so this sucks. The 120 miles also has our nearest Hobby Lobby (it just opened in May) and we have to drive almost 200 to find Micheal's and it's 4 hours of highway/interstate driving to the nearest cake store.
I know when we go out of town shopping or to visit my parents that if they don't have fabric and cake stuff I will go to Target because I like their housewears and stuff better anyway.

I hope they don't phase out our fabric dept. I tend to do late night runs when I get inspired and Walmart is the only late night place for fabric and cake stuff.
