I thought I had the right tip for making grass (233) but when I went to just make sure I found out I dont. I am making a cake tonight for my son. A race track. Is there any other tips that would work good for making grass?

I say make it a little thinner then usuall butter cream. Make the grass LONG so that it kind of falls over. Grass was tricky for me the first time it took ALOT of playing around to get it the right consistancy.

Maybe a number 2 tip? This will be a lot of work! I'd start with 2, and see how that works.

nope, tip 233 is the one to use! you got it right. But yeah just see if you can get it a little thinner. Thats the tip i used to make the grass in my winnie the pooh & tigger cakes in my photos. And it worked for the bumble bee in the winnie the pooh cake too!! Good luck!!

Are you saying you do NOT have tip 233? If so, I have read that you can put a thick layer of BC down(for the grass), then use a fork to pull up the frosting to look like grass. Maybe someone else has a better trick=) Jen

No I do NOT have the tip. I thought I did. I am very new to all this and should have double checked before this afternoon. Thanks for the idea about using the fork. Maybe I will try that first on the side and see how it goes. I making a fbct for the track. I'll post a picture when I'm done.

Well the cake is done. I ended up not doing any grass this time but plan on buying more tips. I wish I had time to take some classes. I really enjoy cake decorating.
Thank you all for you ideas. Now onto my next cake due Friday!
