So I am doing a tiered cake today and as I am waiting for it to cool I started to ponder... "How long do other bakers wait to stack thier cakes." ![]()
Then I thought "Hmmm, I wonder if other people try to get it all done in one day or if they bake one day and decorate the next." ![]()
So... what do you do?
Depends. Usually, though, I bake one day and ice the next. Or, I bake in the morning, crumb coat and ice in the evening, then the next day I decorate. HTH.
If I know ahead of time, I bake one day, freeze them, then decorate another day. I find my cakes are moister and it just saves a bunch of hassle waiting for the cakes to cool and this also gives me time to get my icing done ahead as well. As I don't crumb-coat, I just go ahead and decorate once my cakes are out of the freezer or once they have thawed...I've decorated frozen and thawed so it just depends on time.
Oh that reminds me, that was another one of my thoughts... "how many people crumb coat?"
I wish I had a freezer big enough to freeze! I'm seriously thinking about claning out my back hall closet to put on in there. Along with some shelves for back up items! It'll be my own little supply shop, heheheh.
