you may just want to experiment (early) with it. i sometimes like to put super pearl, but it lightens the color, so i find that if i want really really bright colors, i need to first color the fondant and then dust them in the same color for the shine. definately pick luster dust though, if you use sparkle or pixie dust, the grain is too big and it doesnt look as clean. i bet you could find a tangerine and hot pink dust somewhere. how pretty!
If you can't find luster dust colors that you like, there is a wider variety of petal dusts and you can use one of those. They do have a matte finish as opposed to the "luster" of luster dusts, but you can mix the petal dusts with pearl dust to give it the sheen. ![]()
Well, Gerbera daisies are not shiny, so I would not use luster dust. I would use regular petal dust and then steam them over boiling water to set the color. Steaming will also darken the dust color a bit so start out with your gumpaste colored with gel in a lighter shade than what you want the finished color to be. I would try Nicholas Lodge's Fucshia or Magenta petal dust for the pink and Mango or Mango mixed with a tiny bit of Red Poppy for the orange flowers.

For me, the object of making gumpaste flowers is because they are the closest in looks to a real flower. I want that look when I have completed them, so using luster dusts wouldn't give you that look. If you were doing an all white cake with nothing but pearl illusion decorations then white Gerbera's dusted with the Super Pearl might be alright, but not for colored flowers.
