Mabe you could do some polka dots in the different colors with the roses on top...or do the square cake with a dress bow around the bottom & the roses on top.

Do dark purple - like eggplant colored with a sage green. That's a more modern version of the combination. It looks beautiful!

If you have some of Wilton's wedding cakes books, there are some cool ideas for some "modern" (wilder) styles of cakes...loops, confetti-type stuff...lots of fun inspiration.

I love lavender and sage green together, but I wouldn't put much pink in there unless he really wanted it (just mho). There's electric purple and lime, too, but that seems a little bright for a grownup.

My Wilton books aren't super-new, but I have about 4 of them from the last 2-3 years...

I think the loops would be from royal icing on the one I'm thinking of, but it looks positively MODERN. Don't know how roses would combine with it though--it looks like the cake stuck it's "finger in a light socket" if you can picture that...lol

Confetti probably with gumpaste or fondant.

sage green cake with lavender (and/or pink) loops..?

lavender cake with sage green and white loops...

fondant offers tons of possibilities too--the whimsy cakes are fun, and there are tons of ideas, but they're not traditional...

hmm...

What about something more "Martha"-ish...she has some neat ideas on her website, and there's a really cool cake in this month's MS Living magazine, but I'm not sure how they did the fondant on it. I love it. It's like a ridged sheet of fondant around a round cake, and the top is spilling over with flowers. Looks like, um, sort of a container of flowers. Maybe not funky enough though, but if he likes traditional...

And it could work in those colors...

I keep getting ideas...

If he likes roses and traditional, what about cornelli lace...

I have a heart cake in my gallery that would be cool in your colors...cornelli lace and a green ribbon, with fondant roses on it.

Ok, shutting up now, tee hee..! icon_smile.gif

I was thinking of that same Sylvia Cake--Yours is beautiful--homecook!
Lavender icing with white cornelli, Pale pink ribbon, Lavender roses. But orient the cake on the diagonal. It would be stylin'
