although i already have a website that my daughter made, i have the op to do a wedding cake intrade for a website. the groom does this professionally. the cake design and size they want is not a problem, delivery is further then i would normally choose to go. so i cant decide if i should be happy with what i have in my website, or do the cake, have a better website and the exposure, the bride works for a large local radio station. what do you all think?
My husband is a graphic designer. He owns his own company and does things like web, print, identity, etc. It is very common for him to barter services.
Just like good cake isn't cheap, good websites aren't either.
The only way to decide whether or not it is worth your time is to price out what those services would cost you if you were paying for them yourself. If you are happy with how your site looks now, you can always barter future updates.
Just makes sure that dollar for dollar, the barter is equal.
My question would be what is he going to charge you once the deal has been fulfilled and you need maintenance on your website? I do my own so I have no clue what I would have to pay for maintenance so I would definitely ask this question...
Did you need an update to your site? Were you unhappy with it before it was suggested? Are you able to handle the additional business that might come with the exposure? If you weren't unhappy before, than are you really gaining something by taking this on for a trade? Those are the questions I would ask myself.
Good luck with it. Sounds like a tough decision!
It's a no brainer...take the trade!
Think of the potential a new website done by a professional can provide. Better yet, get the bride to throw in an ad deal or have dj's talk about her cake on air. Even if you have to deliver a dozen cookies to them during drive time. Personally, I would not think twice about this golden opportunity.
I have the capability to do websites, and with web-development programs getting more "drag and drop" every day, lots of people can publish their own. However, there are many, many technical things to consider when doing a website, like rankings on search engines and such. If this guy is going to handle that for you, then WHAMMO! You will get more hits on your site, which will translate into more business! I would definitely ask him to give you examples of websites he has completed, so you can check out his work. I would also work out how you would handle adding additional photos/pages to you site in the future.
Also, considering the bride is a DJ, I would certainly ask her to give you a plug or two on the air. Maybe even suggest to her that you would do a personal "taste testing" for her and some of her listeners so she can decide on her cake flavor(s). That would be huge exposure for you!
Good luck!
