Elmo & The Exploding Squeeze Bottle!

Late last night I was finishing an Elmo birthday cake for a party tonight. Everything was going too smoothly~ even my buttercream was holding up perfectly in the 85 degree/75% humidity (no a/c!)... I was so close to being done; all I had to do was add my royal icing elmo and finishing touches... To attach Elmo to the cake, I was using thinned royal icing (red!) in a Wilton squeeze bottle and "gluing" the area I was place to Elmo... But then on my last squeeze, the top of the bottle flew off (onto my cake!) and all the thinned, red royal icing exploded onto the middle of my cake in one big blob!!! It was one of those moments where you're just standing there, thinking, "did that really just happen?"!! Literally, a giant RED puddle on my WHITE buttercream! Luckily, I was able to save the cake, and it looks pretty darn good! I scooped up the excess icing, and Elmo covered a majority of the blob. The remainder of the blob was covered by strategically placed "Elmo drawings" that were supposed to go on the sides of the cake. Isn't it funny how cakes can turn out better after a disaster??? I'll post a pic after I upload them...
My lesson for everyone~~ Make sure your tops and tips are on TIGHT!!!
That's great that you were able to fix it! I can't wait to see how it turned out!
