I dont think it went too badly.

Was at spotlight (a fabric/craft shop) today and they had like hat boxes on special. Seeing as i cant find polysterine shapes anywhere i thought id try these. They worked well. Were firm as but i didnt have much luck with the MMF.
Im having trouble in NZ finding just plain white marshmellows... Im having to buy heaps of packets of pink and white ones and just pull out the white ones.
I decided to just use a bag of pink and white ones to make up a fake cake.... just to try out the MMF... Next time i think ill add the shortening (which is really hard to get in NZ too)

Anyways heres a pic... Not the best but its ok for a first try! (the MMF is a lil thin cos i was running out!!!!)

Oh i have one Q too..... How to you roll out the fondant without it sticking to the table/bench... Ive tried heaps of CS but its not really working.

TIA
LL

1st try at it?? Looks great!

As far as the MMF sticking, cornstarch usually helps with me, and I add a little shortning..but you say its hard to get in your part of the world. hmmm, i'm sure someone else will chime in on this.

Good luck!

I prefer to roll MMF out with cornstarch, it makes it a lot easier to handle. Did you get the pretty pink by using the 2 colored bag of marshmellows? I don't have a problem finding bags of all white but I've looked at the mixed bags and wondered if the color would be pretty. I think the color is great. Well done!

Bags of pink and white marshmallows are all you can get in the supermarkets here, too, but 1kg bags of white ones are available in the wholesale/bulk food stores, as they sell them to the cafes for hot chocolates, etc. You should be able to find a shop like that somewhere. (much cheaper that way, too!)

Your cake looks great!

Thanks so much for the support!!!!

Yeah thats the colour i got from the pink and white marshmellows.... I also just tried it with a multi pack colour marshmellows and it makes a really nice green... like a baby green... i will be using that tomorrow!

Ive looked at wholesalers and they also only have the pink and white ones in 1kg bags...
While looking there tho i found they go 5kg bags of mudcake mix and sponge cake mix... Was thinking about trying those out.... I tried to make a cake with pudding mix in it last night but that failed lol i didnt realise you needed the extra egg! icon_redface.gificon_redface.gif

Will try the MMF with cornstarch next time icon_biggrin.gif
Thanks!
