Need Suggestions For Buying First Baking Pans!
Decorating By JulieR Updated 3 Jun 2007 , 1:14pm by mamacc
I have been baking bundt cakes for quite a while and have a collection of Nordicware cast aluminum pans which I love. Recently, I decided to expand my baking skills so I took a beginning decorating course. I really love it and am planning on taking the next courses in the series.
For the first class I have been baking my cakes using a 9-inch round springform pan by Calphalon (my only nice non-bundt pan). The cakes have been turning out really well, but the sides are slighly angled so they are a bit harder for me to ice. I would really like to invest in some other good baking pans, but I don't feel that I have enough experience to determine which pans would be best for me. I don't want to buy pans that don't hold up or don't work well. Does anyone have suggestions as to brands or types of pans that have worked well for them? I would appreciate any advice!!!
Magic Line pans from here are very good. They have straight sides, nice corners, good weight and bake well. Here is a link to the round ones: http://shop.cakecentral.com/-c-48_49.html
There also come in squares and rectangles.
I agree with miriel, I have a few Magic Line pans I love them and hope to buy more soon.
God Bless,
Sharon
wilton's pan are not bad for the price. the scratch quite easily and dent if you knock them on something but overall worth the price and standup over time. if you want some pans to start your collection, they are a good option. You can use the michael's 40% coupon and get them even cheaper! The walmart in my area also sells some of the smaller sized pans for about $1 less per pan than Michaels.
HTH!
Magic Line all the way!! I cannot even express how much better and easier my baking has become. Even the no dairy/egg cakes I make for my nieces are firm and flat in these. They are worth every penny and more!
Also, check out pfeil & holing. I have both those and magic line and I can't tell the difference between the two, but the pfiel & holing are less $$....or at least they were years ago when I was buying all my pans.

(just a couple of more sites for you to check out)
Do you have Marshall's or TJ Maxx in your area? You can find some good calphalon pans and Nordicware there for good prices. They ususally have a good selection of sizes and shapes and if you just keep going back they get new different stuff. Different brands. You can tell by weight (teflon coating is good) how well they will hold up.
Wow! This was exactly the kind of advice that I was looking for. I have a birthday soon, and my family has been asking me for gift suggestions. I would love some cake pans, but I had no idea what kind of pans to suggest to them. I am so excited to have found cake central. There is such a wealth of information, and everyone is so nice to share. I feel like I have learned so much in just a couple of days. My husband thinks I am already addicted to the site! Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond to my question!
