Well we are in the home stretch for the AUgust wedding. DD had her first bridal shower on Sunday and I made the cake. It was chocolate with chocolate/hazlenut filling (you know that nutella stuff?) I used snowwhite frosting for the decorating. The little apple blossoms are fondant (which started to melt in the humidity!)
I had the hardest time with the image. Our local grocery store offered the service of printing your image to use on your own cake or have the store do the cake. When I went down to get it done, they have discontinued the service!! I was so mad. I ended up printing out the picture and laminating it and then putting it on the cake. At least they can have it for a keepsake.
So I have some questions if no one minds icon_smile.gif
I am planning on doing the wedding cake in fondant (MMF) is it going to melt?
The bow I was going to do would be in fondant too, can I add gumtek to try and stabalize it so it won't melt and fall off the cake.
I'm getting pretty worried now since these little blossoms "wilted"
Any and all advice would be MUCH appreciated
So sorry I haven't been on in a time, I am so busy with making all the wedding stuff I simply have not had time.
Here is the shower cake, critiques welcome icon_smile.gif

Sorry....can't help with your questions. I just wanted to say how pretty I thought your cake was!!! I really like the little dragonflies. It was very clever of you to laminate the photo. I wouldn't have thought of that, I would have given up!! Again, very good job on the cake!!! What did everyone think of the nutella filling? I use it all the time! It's my favorite!!!

It came out pretty. I have laminated many photos to use on cakes. (But you're not allowed to post them, did you know?)

Taigen,

I'm sorry! I didn't understand the rules myself ... I looked them up AFTER posting that reply. Your photo was OK to upload:

Here's the quote from Jackie the moderator:
I just wanted to post a quick clarification on the Photo gallery rules about uploading photos with faces.

GOOD [Thumbs Up!]
It's OK to upload photos of cakes that have photos on them. For example, if you made a cake that had a frosting sheet print out of someone's face. That is OK. That is part of the actual decoration of the cake and is acceptable.

BAD [Thumbs Down]
It is not OK to upload a photo of say, your nephew blowing out the candles on a cake, unless his face is cropped, or hidden.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Thanks! [Very Happy]

Vienneaus, yeah I didn't realize about the photo thing when I first started coming here and I think it was Jackie that messaged me about it so I knew it was okay to post the cake with the photo on it. But thanks for the rules. Every site is different icon_smile.gif
Thank you all for the comments. The nutella was a hit with everyone. The only thing I found was it was a wee bit runny to work with but everyone really liked it as the filling. I would definetly use it again. icon_smile.gif

What does the nutella filling consist of? I haven't heard of that before...or is there a recipe on here that I should be reading instead? icon_redface.gif

Nutella is actually a spread you buy in a jar. It is chocolate with hazle nuts. Nutella is the brand name but I think most stores carry the same thing in their own brand. When I opened the jar I poured off any access liquid before using it. As I said it can be quite runny.

Oh, okay! I have seen that spread in the jars but wasn't sure if you all were adding anything to it before using it as a filling. Thanks so much for the tip! I will file that with all the other ideas flying through my mind that I want to try "some day!" icon_lol.gif

Although I am not fond of chocolate I will often make a chocolate cake with a nutella filling. They are always a big hit. The great thing about nutella is that you always have a quick filling in your cupboard. People love it!!

Pretty cake....

Making the flowers when using gumpaste (adding gum tex) good idea also,
I'd make the flowers as soon as possible to let them air dry and harden...weeks to months ahead is fine....

If you can have the cake in an airconditioned room that would help out alot....

No air conditioned rooms here. icon_sad.gif My plan is...and I have never done this before......to bake the cake on the Monday or Tues, crumb coat Wed and do the MMF on Thurs. Then I am hoping on the Friday night after rehearsal to decorate it and it will be left on the dining room table. The gumpaste flowers and bows etc. will be done later this month and allowed to dry. I am making extras!!! The only decorative icing will be around the base and some leaves etc., attaching the gumpaste flowers and the dragonflies and butterflies. Does all this sound like a good plan or am I way off with all this?
The cake will be left indoors until it is time to cut and then it will be carefully (very!!) carried a few feet to the patio.
I'm really beginning to get the jitters now.....but the cakes I have done so far have been fun and turned out pretty good. The one they want for the wedding is the same as the last practice cake I did. I'm just nervous that I will wreck things. You guys must have nerves of steel!!! How do you guys do this all the time???

I forgot to add that this is the first time I "torted" the layers and filled them. It does make quite a difference and everyone seemed to prefer it over the regular two layers/ 1filling.
