ok so here the thing, my MIL wants me to make a cake for FIL. but she wants a yellow cake with chocolate icing. my questions are, does any body think CBC would be ok and she gave me no ideas as for decorating. i am at a loss on how to decorate it since he does not really have any hobbies. the only thing i can come up with is either a harley theme or an 18 wheeler theme since he is a truck driver. someone please help i am so lost!!!!

Or how about a lite choc covered cake with darker swirls. I have seen some here under fathers day site. I would lean toward one of them. By the way I love yellow cake with chocolate BC icing.

I think that a basket weave on a cake is sort of manly.

I vote 18 wheeler that looks like what he drives or what he wishes he was driving.

How about an 18 wheeler with the container (sorry, if that is the incorrect term) decorated with the Harley Logo? You could use the fire truck mold. I would do flames on the sides of the truck and try to either transfer or freehand the Harley logo. Then you could personalize the cab (got that term right, I think icon_lol.gif ) with his driver information. Maybe on the back of the truck put a little sign playing with the idea of "if you don't like the way I am aging, call 888-ur-prob."

Whenever I make cakes for my FIL I don't worry about decorating them (or frosting them smooth, either). I just kinda swirl the icing around on the cake. As long as it tastes good he doesn't care what it looks like.

i like that idea. now if i can only find the fire truck mold. if not i may try just doing a side view of that on a sheet cake. all of the other ideas are great too. but i do need the practice so i am gonna do some decorating lol. i will post a pic when i make it.

If you have time you can order it online. I have seen it at many of the craft store and cake supply sites. You could also use a loaf pan for the bed. I would use a cupcake or a half of the loaf pan for the cab. For wheels maybe try oreos. Then for the springy things that connect the bed and the cab, you could use licorice. You could also buy a new pair of those shoe laces that are all curled up and keep the kids laces from coming untied. I would cut and dip them into royal icing and let them dry if you have time.

It is great to try the new things and have them for your portfolio. I always use these occassions as an excuse to practice also. Please post your finished picture. Good luck.
