I have seen many posts talking about gum paste flowers so I just wanted to let you all know about the new Wilton (projected) Course 4. I attended a Wilton training this Saturday and they told us about this and I don't remember them telling us that we couldn't tell anyone, so I thought I'd share (besides how are you going to get the word out and get people interested in taking the course if you don't tell). I do remember them telling us we can't show anyone how to make the flowers, yet.
They are planning on having a Course 4 -- Fondant and Gum Paste Flowers starting in early 2007. It is not finalized yet so they only showed us some of the things that maybe be in the course. We made a carnation, calla lily, "fantasy" flower and they showed us how to make a daisy. For those of you who have the Wilton Floral Collection Flower Making Set the carnation, calla lily and daisy are made differently then they are shown in the book with this set. Much easier I might add. I am excited to see what else we will be teaching I can't wait to start teaching the class.
Also we worked with the new pre-packaged gum paste. Very easy to work with and I find if it is already made, when I have some free time I can sit down and practice making flowers. I have been experimenting all morning. I've done an easter lily, white carnation dipped in red shimmer dust, purple heart (or purple queen also known as old fashioned wondering jew -- got them in my yard so I had to see if I could make one).
Well, enough of that I am going to get back to my "practicing" (playing).
YIPPIE!!! We really needed a class like that. But 6 more months till we have it? Wonder why such a wait. Oh well, I'll be there!!! Can't wait.
I took a wilton gumpaste class last summer. Must've been the old school method cause my instructor, whom I love, has been doing this For EV er. I assume it was wilton since it was taught at michaels and we filled out all the wilton forms. I know the instructor was in contact with someone higher up at wilton talking about how things should be taught. Anyway, I might take it again to see which methods they came up with and try the new gumpaste.
I learned a great deal. We covered roses, carnation, sweet pea, daisies, apple blossom and periwinkle.---And Chrysanthemum--surprisingly my fave.
That's great news, because I have just begun the Wilton gumpaste classes that they offer now, and I find them pretty basic.
I'd like to do more.
Can't wait! ![]()
Hey, I'm a WMI as well... It was stressed to us that it is not going to be a "Course 4" but will be considered a 4 week project class. The name of it will not be Course 4, but "Advance Fondant and Introduction to Gumpaste" or something along those lines.
The reason there it still a wait for it is because they have not finished putting it together. As was said above the flowers we learned may or may not be in the course. Once they figure out what they want in the classes they have to put all the directions together, and make the packets of information for the instructors as well as the information to hand out to the students.
The flowers we learned in the meeting were made using the little heart and circle fondant cutters they have out now and their new premade gumpaste. They may be working on some more new products to use as well.
The Fantasy Flower is in their new tiered book. I believe it is near the front of the book, and is in red. We learned it a bit differently, so they still may be trying to figure out the best way to make certain flowers.
I really liked the flowers we learned and can't wait to see what else they come up with. So I'm waiting like the rest of you to see what all is included in the class.
I'm not sure which is worse, not knowing there is a new class coming out, or knowing but having to wait for it.
Oh, how much fun! I cannot wait for a new class, and for how to do Fondant and Gumpaste flowers. I don't care if it's called a course or not, it sounds like we will learn wonderful new things!
I am about to re-take Course II and III, just because it's been a while, and I haven't done some of these flowers in a while, and I have never really been able to do that fondant rose.......... I'm somebody who has to be shown things more than once sometimes........... anyway, maybe that can tide me over til I can take this new class.
I can't wait!
