How do I make a yellow cake taste as good as a box cake? Everytime I make one, it tastes like cornbread. I've tried different recipes, but they all taste the same. What am I doing wrong? Is there anything I can add to make it taste better?

It could be that you possibly over mixed your batter? At first I thought that it was my flour, but I made another cake and it came out so moist. This is just a thought.

BTW, welcome to CC!

Yellow cake from a cake mix does not taste like cornread. You may have missed something, I baked cakes to realize the eggs are still sitting in the bowl!!! Good luck to you

I like the Dunkin Hines cake mix and if you add instant vanilla pudding to the mix it tastes sometimes better than from scratch!

Erica, welcome to cake central! I don't have a recipe for you. But, your question "How do I make a yellow cake taste as good as a box cake?" leads me to ask you why you would want to make a cake from scratch if you are satisfied with the taste of the box mix? If it taste better, and it's definitely easier, then use a mix! I always use a mix; and I make lots of cakes! I have 11 this weekend alone! (an all-time high for me, though ... and why I'm sitting here on the computer when I should be baking and decorating I'll never know!) (It's that crazy addiction to cc that you'll be into soon!)
