Hi everyone,

Megal80 recently posted an awesome 3 tier men's shirt and tie cake. And someone had said it would be cool as a tuxedo cake too. So I am coming to all of you and asking you-How would you make a 3 tier tuxedo cake? What size would the cakes be? Fondant or buttercream? Would there be a collar? Bowtie? etc. I just want to get some opinions. I am making a bride cake for my neice's shower for Sunday and I thought it would be awesome to do a tuxedo cake because the groom is also going to be at the shower. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if I am just being paranoid but whenever I ask questions here on CC I get very little response. Is it because I ask too many questions and no one wants to answer anymore? I am really getting a complex here.

That cake is so cute and it would make a great tuxedo.

If I were to do it, I'd do three tiers all the same size. I like "morning coat" , or cutaway, tuxedos, so I'd probably do that from the shoulders down to the cut away of the coat and showing a vest, wing collar shirt, ascot style tie, lapels, and stripped trouser on the bottom.

Here's a google image of what I'm thinking:

I think you could do most of the cake in black fondant and then do a triangle down the tiers for the shirt. add lapels and a tie....

remember that megal didn't have shoulders!

That would be so cute! I would make a horizontal pleated piece of fondant in the accent wedding color and wrap it around the bottom tier as the cumber bun, I would then probably make the middle tier white with black fondant wrapped around with a white V left showing with a couple of buttons. I would continue the black up to the top tier and make a little black collar and a bowtie on the top front.... sorry, got my wheels turning... icon_lol.gif Don't forget to add tails trailing from the middle tier down in the back.... LOL

That would be really cute if the tails trailed onto the cake board.

Here's a "bride and groom" cake from the 2006 Austin Cake show that might give you some inspiration:

And here's a link to my Tuxedo cake -- not exactly what you're going for, but again, might give you some inspiration:

Dear Sunflowerfreak, I hope you have not developed a complex. I can't answer your question other than to say I think you have a neat idea and I can't wait to see what you do but I can tell you if I think I can ever put my 2 cents in to help I surely will. Looks like you are getting some good feedback on this topic though. Good luck and I wanna see icon_smile.gif!

Sunflowerfreak, I love the pic Cakeboss sent you of her cake thumbs_up.gif If you wanted to make it smaller maybe you could do 3 tiers (the top= the hat; the middle= lapels w/ shirt and tie just like Cakeboss; the bottom=pinstriping for trousers) and then you could make "tails" of the tuxedo in the back going from the middle to bottom tier.
Cakeboss, I love your cake icon_biggrin.gif When I read Sunflowerfreak's post I had a visual in my head and then when I looked at your pic icon_eek.gif . I was thinking, " Hey, that was like magic!" icon_cool.gif

Hey Sunflowerfreak, don't feel bad. I've felt like that, too at times about my posts. I'm gonna keep an eye out for your posts; I AM thumbs_up.gif Paranoids Unite! icon_razz.gif I'm only teasing you because I related so well to you icon_biggrin.gif

It's because you want an answer in less than 30 minutes. There are slow times on CC when there are few people here, and perhaps noone who knows the answer. Calm down a little, someone always shows up... Image

At the bottom of each reply there is a line of boxes, one is marked 'photos'. Just click on that and it will take you to that person's photos. (I don't have many any more, because the newest change made them look kind of warpy, so I removed a lot of them.)

Thanks everyone. The shower was yesterday and I had made 3 cakes, petit fours (Kathy Scott molds!!) and some decorated cookies. All of them are in my pics. Everything was a hit. And the cakes tasted AWESOME. I had so much help here on CC. My mother-in-law even called my husband when she got home to tell him that I did a spectacular job and how proud she was of me and glad that I was her daughter-in-law. COOL ha? Thanks everyone for a very successful day.
