I can't find my thread on this...but could someone direct me to a recipe for a good frosting (good to decorate with), but has the light texture and flavor of a whipped cream frosting...sometimes buttercream just seems so sweet or heavy...

Category: Frostings
Difficulty: easy

Made with evaporated milk, this achieves the consistency of whipped cream.

Here is the 'creamy whipped frosting' recipe from this site......
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup cold evaporated milk

1 In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla for 8 to 10 minutes. With mixer on high, add cold evaporated milk 1 tablespoon at a time.

2 Frost cake as desired and keep refrigerated.

Sorry I can't help you with the whipped recipe , but I will tell you that if you want to cut down on the sweetness of the buttercream..add 1/2 teaspoon of salt to your butter in the bowl when mixing with the shortning. This helps a lot!

Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting

8 oz Cream cheese
1/2 C. sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 c. (one pint) heavy cream

Beat the cream cheese until smooth, add sugar, beat, and vanilla. When that's as smooth as possible, gradually pour in the heat cream and beat until stiff peaks form.

This is a favorite in my family. It decorates well, but if you're doing a lot of piping you want to refridgerate what you're not using. The colder it is the better it pipes. I could eat this by the spoonful.

Here is a great tasting frosting and you can decorate with it too.

It does not crust very much so I add 3 TB spoons of meringue powder. The taste is light not too sweet. Here is a link to a cake that I decorated with this frosting.
