Would someone please remind me that cakes often look horrible until after the last detail is on?

Don't you hate when you are setting a cake at the reception, and you have people looking at you, and you have to tell them, "wait is not done jet"

I haven't had THAT happen yet, thank goodness.

Anyone wanna come over and help me mass produce hydrangeas?

LOL-that is so true. My husband likes to see the cakes when I just start putting them together, and then stays away until I'm finished. He says he likes the surprise of the end result. Most the time he can't believe it's the same cake.

I've had some pretty awful looking cakes end up looking beautiful at the end. It's amazing what the finishing touches can do!

There was one cake I made (purple fairly Barbie) that had me literally banging my head on the table at 4am because I was so sure it was a miserable failure. (you should have seen the look on my husband's face!) It turned out well, though, and I love it now.

It will all come together for you!

So, so true.

With my "baby frogs" cake, I took pictures before it was done and called my sister in a panic to ask for advice, because it was so awful. She reminded me that it wasn't anywhere near done. It turned out to be one of my most successful cakes, and is the basis of nearly every referral I've ever had (I am making cakes for friends of friends of friends who were at that baby shower). Cheer up and, in the immortal words of Douglas Adams, "Don't Panic". icon_cool.gif

I've gotten halfway through some of my "now favorite" cakes and broke down in tears because I thought they were so terrible. I hate having to bring a wedding cake in that is naked but some things just have to be done on site. I just want to put a little sign up that says come back and look at the cake in an hour.
